Workers' Compensation Care in Livonia

A hand being X-rayed on site at Serenity Urgent Care after an injury

Hurt on the job? Michigan workers' comp covers your treatment, and for the first 28 days, your employer chooses where. Here's how it works.

What should I do right after a work injury?

Three things, in order. Report the injury to your employer immediately, unreported injuries are where comp claims go to die. Get treated promptly; same-day treatment is better for your body and your claim alike. And tell the front desk it’s a work injury the moment you check in, because workers’ compensation billing and documentation run on completely different rails than your health insurance.

What is Michigan’s 28-day rule?

For the first 28 days of treatment, your employer (or its insurer) has the right to choose the medical provider who treats you. After 28 days, you may switch to a doctor of your own choosing, you just notify the employer or insurer of the change. It’s one of the most misunderstood rules in Michigan work injury care, and knowing it protects you in both directions: follow the employer’s designation early so your claim stays clean, and know that the choice becomes yours after four weeks.

What work injuries do you treat?

The injuries that actually happen on job sites and shop floors: sprains and strains from lifting, cuts and lacerations, falls, suspected fractures, X-rayed on site, repetitive-motion pain, and minor burns. Severe trauma is an emergency room case first; comp paperwork can catch up afterward.

Who pays for the treatment?

Workers’ compensation does, not you, and not your health plan. In Michigan, medical care for a legitimate work injury is covered from the first dollar, with no co-pay and no deductible. That’s exactly why the front desk needs to know it’s a work injury at check-in: billed correctly from the start, you should never see a bill at all.

Why does documentation matter so much?

Because a comp claim is only as strong as its medical record. Every visit here produces documentation of what happened, what the exam found, what treatment was given, and what work restrictions apply. That is the record your claim, your employer, and any dispute will all rely on later. Getting treated at a clinic that handles comp paperwork routinely is quiet insurance for the entire process.

Questions

Before you come in for workers' compensation

The things people ask most often. There are more on the FAQ page.

Do you treat work injuries?

Yes. Serenity handles workers' compensation injuries and occupational health services for employers. Michigan gives you the right to choose your own treating provider 28 days after the injury is reported, which matters if your employer sent you somewhere you would rather not go back to.

Do you do X-rays on site?

Yes. Digital X-ray is in the building and available during opening hours, covering foot and ankle, knee and hip, hand and finger, back and neck, chest, and abdomen. The exam, the image, and the treatment happen in one visit rather than across three appointments. CT and MRI are not available at an urgent care; if your exam suggests you need one, you will be referred.

What should I bring to my visit?

A photo ID, your insurance card, a list of the medications you take, and any form that needs signing, such as a school, sports, or employer physical form. If a specialist or another clinic has recent results relevant to your visit, bring those too.

How do I get a copy of my records?

Ask at the front desk or call (248) 482-8809. You have the right under HIPAA to request access to your medical records and to ask for corrections. If you need images for a specialist, an orthopedic referral for example, ask before you leave: bringing your own X-rays to a specialist appointment can spare you a repeat exam.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Serenity is a walk-in clinic: come in, give the front desk your name, and you will be seen. There is no appointment to make and no referral to chase. Two kinds of visit are the exception and do want a booking, because time is set aside for them: IV drips and weight-loss consultations.
