Physical Exams in Livonia

School form due Monday? Sports season starting? Walk in any day. The exam and the signed paperwork happen in one visit.

Which physicals do you do?

  • School physicals, the enrollment paperwork Michigan schools require
  • Sports physicals, the pre-participation exam signed for teams and leagues
  • College and camp physicals, the health forms campuses and summer programs ask for
  • Work physicals, pre-employment, employment, and fitness-for-duty exams
  • Return-to-work exams, the clearance your employer needs after an illness or injury
  • Routine annual physicals, the general check-in on blood pressure, heart, lungs, and history

What happens during the exam?

First a review of medical history, so bring what you know about past conditions, medications, and family history. Then the physical itself: vital signs, heart and lungs, vision, joints and flexibility for sports clearances, and whatever the specific form requires. If the form needs lab work or vaccination records, both live in the same building.

Why do schools and teams require this?

The sports physical isn’t bureaucracy, it screens for the small set of conditions that make sudden exertion dangerous, particularly heart conditions that show no symptoms in daily life. Fifteen minutes of exam a year is the accepted price for catching those before they matter on a field.

Do I need an appointment?

No, physicals ride the same walk-in model as everything else, 7 days a week. The one thing that saves you a second trip: bring the actual form your school, team, or employer needs signed. We complete and sign it during the visit.

When should we come in?

Before the deadline crunch. Every August the clinic fills with families whose school forms are due that week, it works, but you’ll wait less in June or July. For sports, any time before the season’s first practice.

Questions

Before you come in for physical exams

The things people ask most often. There are more on the FAQ page.

Do you do physicals?

Yes: school, sports, camp, work, and pre-employment physicals, all on a walk-in basis. Bring the form your school, team, or employer needs signed and you will leave with it completed the same day. Serenity does not offer DOT physicals.

What should I bring to my visit?

A photo ID, your insurance card, a list of the medications you take, and any form that needs signing, such as a school, sports, or employer physical form. If a specialist or another clinic has recent results relevant to your visit, bring those too.

Do you treat children?

Yes. Serenity treats children and adults, and a large share of walk-in visits are for children: ear infections, sore throats, fevers, rashes, minor injuries, and school and sports physicals. If your child is very young, call ahead and the front desk will confirm before you drive over.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Serenity is a walk-in clinic: come in, give the front desk your name, and you will be seen. There is no appointment to make and no referral to chase. Two kinds of visit are the exception and do want a booking, because time is set aside for them: IV drips and weight-loss consultations.

What will my visit cost?

With insurance, what you pay is usually a copay set by your plan, and urgent care copays are typically well below an emergency department copay for the same complaint. The exact figure depends on your plan, your deductible, and what the visit involves, so the honest answer is to check your card or call (248) 482-8809 and ask before you come in. Nobody should be surprised by a bill.
