Lab Testing in Livonia

The Laboratory sign marking the on-site lab at Serenity Urgent Care

Testing is how a symptom becomes a diagnosis. We run rapid tests and lab work on site, 7 days a week, no appointment needed.

What tests do you run?

The tests that turn “something’s wrong” into a specific answer:

Rapid tests resolve during your visit. Send-out lab work comes back in days, and the clinic contacts you with results and next steps.

Why test instead of just treating the symptoms?

Because identical symptoms have opposite treatments. A sore throat that’s viral needs rest and fluids; the same sore throat caused by strep needs antibiotics before it turns into something worse. Burning that suggests a UTI gets confirmed by urinalysis before antibiotics are prescribed. Testing is the difference between medicine and guessing, it’s why the same visit that finds the problem can treat it correctly.

Do I need to fast or prepare?

For a walk-in sick visit, no, come as you are. Some scheduled blood panels do require fasting; if you’re coming in for specific lab work your doctor ordered or for a physical with blood work, call ahead and we’ll tell you exactly what applies.

How do I get my results?

Rapid results are explained face-to-face before you leave, along with the treatment they point to. For send-out labs, the clinic reaches you when results arrive. If a result needs action, the call includes the plan, not just the number.

Is lab testing covered by insurance?

Testing ordered as part of your visit is billed through your plan like the rest of the visit. We accept Medicaid, Medicare, and major commercial plans, the full list is here.

Questions

Before you come in for lab testing

The things people ask most often. There are more on the FAQ page.

What lab tests can you run?

Serenity has a lab on site. Rapid tests for COVID-19, influenza, and strep are done during your visit, along with urinalysis, blood work, pregnancy testing, and STD testing. Rapid results come back within the visit; tests sent out take longer and the clinic will tell you when to expect them.

Do you do X-rays on site?

Yes. Digital X-ray is in the building and available during opening hours, covering foot and ankle, knee and hip, hand and finger, back and neck, chest, and abdomen. The exam, the image, and the treatment happen in one visit rather than across three appointments. CT and MRI are not available at an urgent care; if your exam suggests you need one, you will be referred.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Serenity is a walk-in clinic: come in, give the front desk your name, and you will be seen. There is no appointment to make and no referral to chase. Two kinds of visit are the exception and do want a booking, because time is set aside for them: IV drips and weight-loss consultations.

Will you send results to my regular doctor?

Ask at the visit and the clinic will arrange it. Coordinating care with other providers is a normal, permitted use of your health information, and it is worth doing so your own doctor has the full picture.

What will my visit cost?

With insurance, what you pay is usually a copay set by your plan, and urgent care copays are typically well below an emergency department copay for the same complaint. The exact figure depends on your plan, your deductible, and what the visit involves, so the honest answer is to check your card or call (248) 482-8809 and ask before you come in. Nobody should be surprised by a bill.
